El Almirez is a private country estate located in Socovos, municipality of Sierra del Segura (www.sierradelsegura.com), with an extension around 1200 hectares that surround the small village of El Cañar and adjoin with the reservoir of El Cenajo.

On one hand, a great part of the extension consists of countryside, and on the other hand has land to cultivate cereals, olives and almond trees. Years ago, the production of esparto grass was a very important source of revenue and also we could emphasize its winery that was well known around the region.

Its private hunting preserve has species as rabbits, partridges and is abound in wild boars that leave visible traces everywhere.

 

The autochthonous flora is the tipical mediterranean one, that accounts with pines, holm oaks and lentiscos that are a good shelter for rabbits and partridges. The rest of the countryside is coverd with esparto grass and great variety of aromatic plants.

 

 

El Cañar is an small village that belongs to Socovos, at 12 kms from the town. It is crossed by the Benizar stream that flows into the reservoir of El Cenajo (the greatest of the Confederación Hidrogŕafica del Segura), located at 2 kms from the village. The origin of the the village name is due to the abound of canes sited on the margins of the stream.

Years ago, the population of El Cañar was around two hundred and fifty people. Today only a few houses are restored, and three of them are the rustic houses we offer to you.

 

They are 3 houses of farm workers of the country estate, and are around 150 years old. They have been restored maintaining their original distributions but equiped with all kind of amenities. They have heating and chimney, kitchen with oven, microwave, and washing machine.
These three houses have the same distribution. In the first floor there are a living room, kitchen, wc, and 2 bedrooms. On the second floor there are 4 bedrooms and another wc. Each house has capacity for 10 or 12 people.
